Per Egil Refsnes 1954 - 2009

Friday afternoon I got the sad message that Pella died during his cycling session. He was hit by a car. Pella was Olympiatoppens strenght coach and the most trusted and respected person in his field in Norway. Pella was my personal strenght coach from fall 2003 and the biggest reason why I managed to get stronger and faster to the 2004 season and win an Olympic gold. Pella was so much more than an excellent coach. His positive energy and happy mood affected me and all other athletes he worked with. No matter how tired you were from earlier sessions or just in a bad mood from having a bad day; after training with Pella and listning to one of his many funny stories, the day was always good. I’m going to miss Pella a lot, he was a very good man and friend. My thoughts goes to his wife and three sons.

This weekend I went to Tysvær on the west coast of Norway to compete in Norges Cup 1. I won all my K1 races and came 2nd on the K2 500m together with Fredrik ( who’s first year senior) from my club Flekkefjord. You can find results from NC1 at this adress: http://www.padling.no/files/%7B4C594228-F608-42B7-85BC-749382D48963%7D.pdf  The picture is from the podium for K1 5000m, on 3rd place is a former Polish kayaker, Grzegorz Kaleta. He has been living in Norway for almost ten years now and started training again some years ago. His main event was K4 1000m and he has raced two olympic finals. 4th in Atlanta and 6th in Barcelona. He’s got a medal from Worlds 2005. Maybe he’ll be in our K4 this year…
