Florida was a good camp with a lot of km and hard training. I went home for six days to open the mail, pay my bills and meet family and friends. Then it was off to the Nelo Training Center in Portugal, where I’m now. I’ll be here for four weeks and going straight to my first regatta of the year: Copenhagen Spring Regatta. Portugal is great with top of the line Nelo rental kayaks, nice apartments and fantastic paddling conditions. A big change from windy and crowded (Canadian kids) Florida. It’s still cold some days, but I’ll easily pay that price to get so good paddling conditions. It’s also nice getting dinner and lunch served every day. The Russian team is here as well and it is interesting to see what kind of training they do this time of the year. They have a lot of paddling specific exercises in the gym, which I think is so good that I will put some of the exercises into my program as well. The Nelo center has two start blocks lined up and for the first time ever I do my start training in start blocks. Let’s hope it pays off!
