Last world cup for the season. I had plans on doing K1 500m as well as K1
1000m, but after a disapointing performance at wc-2 I decided just to do K1
1000m.  I also wanted to try a different race plan and see if I could manage
to race with even or negativ 500m splits on the 1000m. I managed to stick
with the plan and had a good race. I’ll do some more testing at the
Europeans before I decide how I will race at Worlds. Rene Poulsen was
dissapointed after wc-2 with his time not making it into the top 10
list

,
but after his victory at wc-3 there was no doubt. Congratz Rene! After wc-3
I had an easy week and this week has been hard. Looking forward to race in
Belgrade, never been there but heard so many nice things about the course
and the city. This weekend we had a national regatta on Årungen outside
Oslo. I was supposed to race against Oyvind Solberg for the K1 5000m spot at
Europeans, but he didn’t show due to injury and I got the spot on walk over..
My sponsors, ESSVE and Thaugland, gave a brand new Nelo Vanquish III SCS to
the best junior, Eivind Vold, this weekend. On the picture is me, Eivind
Vold, and Tore Berger (former CEO at Thaugland and Olympic Champion from K4
1000m 1968)

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 // World Cup - 1, Poznan

First World Cup is already here! It doesn’t feel long since I packed away my
cross country skis for the winter. Anyway, I’m very excited about racing
again and I have no clue what to expect. Training has been going well since
I started this fall, but we all know that there is a huge different between
training and racing. My goal for this weekend is to be one of the guys
fighting for a medal, there’s plenty of days left before the Worlds and I’m
going to improve week by week. Eurosport is broadcasting live on Saturday
and Sunday from 1030 am to 1200am.

It’s been amazing here in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. We live at the La Loma
training center at 1900 meter above sea level and the lake is 70m higher.
It’s been great with our own lake, especially after training with 200
Canadian kids in Florida. The lake is almost 2k long, deep and clean water.
Wind hasn’t been any problem, but we still have 18 days to find out more
about that. The apartments at La Loma are very good, kitchen, big living
room, 3 bedrooms, wash machine and internett. The meals we get served at the
center is great and if we have any request they fix it right away. We can
also decide when we want to eat. I’ve never been to a training center where
I feel as welcome as I do here, it’s just fantastic. Nothing is a problem,
everything can be fixed. These first days with training are easy as we get
used to the high altitude. The landscape doesn’t remind me of high altitude
so it’s a little bit harder to control the intensity then when I’m cross
country skiing in high altitude.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 // Florida

I’ve been in Florida almost 4 weeks, so much training and no time to update
the blog:). First three weeks went very well, a lot of training and I still
managed to feel fresh. This week has been hard, but I’m pushing thru since
I’ve got 4 days rest from Sunday. The Pines is a good place to be when you
train, but when you don’t train is good to get away. Mira and I will fly to
New York and have some vacation before the last weeks of training. Here at
the Pines Mira and I are sharing apartment with two young and upcoming
athletes; Daniel and Jo Sondre. They have impressed me on the water and in
the kitchen. They still have something to learn about washing clothes, but
two out of three is not bad!
